Quantitative evaluation of fast free-hand volumetric ultrasound

چکیده

Free-hand volumetric ultrasound (FVUS) facilitates 3D US imaging of large anatomical areas. However, this method is user-dependent and image quality, especially in the scan direction (elevational direction), depends on number images acquired per distance unit. This might affect clinical decision making for example quantitative muscle imaging. study addresses three goals. First, to determine quantitatively below which acquisitions cm (acq/cm) quality affected: acquisition limit. Second, translation speed used naturally by sonographers. Third, demonstrate vivo possible benefits utilizing plane wave FVUS, so-called fast FVUS order boost while maintaining information. Fast enables at much higher framerates hence limit easier met allows faster transducer translation. From an analysis contrast elevational resolution a phantom, average was determined be 33 acq/cm. Above limit, information remained unchanged. would imply that when 30 frames second, common frame-rate current 2D devices, suboptimal obtained above speeds 9.1 mm/s. The median maximum observed 10 sonographers were 15.8 mm/s 30.1 mm/s, thus Finally, we presented design enabled acquiring 200 fps, hence, allow up 60.6 We demonstrated tibialis anterior muscles more details visible with lost typical framerate. These observations support our hypothesis ideal ultrasound.

Quantitative, Free-Hand 3D Ultrasound Imaging based on a Modified 1D Transducer Array

An approach for acquiring dimensionally accurate 3D ultrasound data, based on a modified 1D transducer array, is presented. The method avoids many of the drawbacks of conventional approaches to 3D ultrasound data acquisition. Scanning is simple and easy to perform in a clinical setting. A modified 1D transducer array is employed comprising a central conventional 1D ‘Imaging’ array and two perpe...

Ultrasound Quantitative Evaluation of Human Eye Cataract

A technique to improve an eye cataract early detection and quantitative evaluation of maturity using ultrasound was investigated. A broadband coherent signal, backscattered from an eye lens tissue, was digitized, recorded and processed. A new parameter – lens quality was proposed for the human eye cataract quantitative evaluation. Lens quality reflects two phenomena of ultrasound interaction wi...

A multiscale algorithm for three-dimensional free-hand ultrasound.

This paper presents a multiscale algorithm for the reconstruction of human anatomy from a set of ultrasound (US) images. Reconstruction is formulated in a Bayesian framework as an optimization problem with a large number of unknown variables. Human tissues are represented by the interpolation of coefficients associated to the nodes of a 3-D cubic grid. The convergence of the Bayesian method is ...

Issues in 3-d Free-hand Medical Ultrasound Imaging

A drawback of conventional 2-D ultrasound imaging is the requirement that the physician mentally reconstruct 3-D anatomy given multiple 2-D image slices. This paper reviews attempts to overcome this problem using 3-D ultrasonic imaging. It is argued that free-hand imaging holds the most promise for e ective and inexpensive 3-D ultrasound. In the free-hand paradigm, the physician is allowed to m...

Evaluation of ultrasound lung comets by hand-held echocardiography

BACKGROUND Ultrasound lung comets (ULCs) are a clinically useful sign of extravascular lung water. They require very limited technology (2 D-echo), and a short learning curve. The aim of the present study is to compare ULCs information obtained by experienced echocardiologists using a full feature echocardiographic platform and by inexperienced sonographers using a hand-held echocardiography sy...
